System Security Software Blocks Access to Key File – CODESOFT Problem

Target Audience: IT Manager
Article #: 12552

System security software often blocks key components of CODESOFT. This causes software malfunctions. Software crashes and error messages are common signs of this interference. However, IT departments can whitelist the key files, the folders that contain them, or the PC that hosts the folders and files. This typically resolves the issue.

Situation and Symptoms

  • System running security software such as Carbon Black, Symantec Endpoint Protection
  • Error message indicating that a key file is missing or blocked.

We found that both Symantec Endpoint Protection and Carbon Black block the following files causing CODESOFT to fail, depending upon the operation underway:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Teklynx\CODESOFT 2021\Lppa.exe – The security software interferes with the launch of CODESOFT.
An error message was encountered when BACKTRACK attempted to launch CODESOFT to print labels. Details shown here.
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Teklynx\CODESOFT 2021\Upgrade.exe – The security software will stop the user from running this from CMD prompt.
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Teklynx\CODESOFT 2021\UpgradeWizard.exe – The wizard app will be prevented from running.

Identify the missing files and then whitelist it, the containing folder, or workstation in the system security software.
