Print a Printer Configuration Test Label on Zebra G-Series Printer – Instructions

This article will guide you through the steps required to print a printer configuration test label on a Zebra G-Series printer. This covers the GK420, GK420t, GX420, GX420t and GX430t printers. This can be helpful in troubleshooting printing problems.


You will need:

  • A G-Series printer plugged in. powered on and online
  • Label stock and sufficient ribbon loaded into the printer


  1. Make sure that the media is properly loaded and the top cover of the printer is closed.
  2. If the printer’s status light is flashing green, it is in Pause mode. Press the Feed button once to change its status to Ready.
  3. Press the Feed button 2-3 times to allow the printer to calibrate to the installed media. This may cause the printer to feed several labels through.
  4. When the status light is solid green, press and hold the Feed button until the status light flashes once.
  5. Release the Feed button and a configuration label will print.
