Modify Text Box Size – BACKTRACK Instructions

Over time, a user may find that the original size of a text box no longer works for their current needs. Fortunately, BACKTRACK allows users to modify the text box size for each data field. Users can make it bigger or smaller as desired.


You will need to have administrative rights in order to edit item fields in BACKTRACK.


  2. In the Main Menu, select the Database Maintenance option.
  1. Click on Administrative Functions.
  1. Click on Maintain Application.
  1. Select the application to be changed. (BACTRACK2 for these instructions).
  1. Click on Advance Edit.
  1. Click on Customize Add/Modify Item Screen.
  1. Drag the text box to be altered and adjust its size as needed. The values in the Position drop-down can be changed to offer precise size and positioning.
  1. Click the X in the top right-hand corner to save the changes.
  1. Then, click OK at the bottom of the screen to exit the Item Structure window.
  1. Lastly, click the Main Menu tab at the top of the screen.
  1. Test BACKTRACK to ensure that it works as desired.

Additional Comments

Note that changing the size of the box does not affect the maximum number of characters the field can contain. The instructions to increase or decrease the character limit can be found here.

In addition, other settings can be adjusted from within the Customize screen such as the colors of text boxes, the size of the screen, and the addition of other fields.
