Enlarged Label Print – Honeywell PM Printer Problem

When deploying a new Honeywell PM-series printer, the user finds enlarged label print with fields printing incorrectly.

Situation and Symptoms

  • Print jobs are sent directly to the printer using Intermec Printer Language (IPL)
  • The printer’s Image Buffer shows an accurate preview of the label.

  • Enlarged label print when output with the fields incorrectly placed.


The print job’s IPL is specifying a Honeywell PM-series printer with a higher resolution than that available on the printer you are using. Check you printer’s specifications in the manual or on Honeywell’s product page for your printer. For example, PM43, PM43c and PM23c printers can output at 203, 300 or 406dpi. However, the PM45 and PM45c can print at up to 600dpi.


You will need to re-write the print job’s IPL to match the lower resolution that your printer is able to achieve.
