Target Audience: Basic User, Advanced User, IT Manager
Article #: 2678

When attempting to add a label using TEKLYNX CENTRAL’s browser interface, the user gets a “Failed to get label configuration” error message.

This article explains the TEKLYNX CENTRAL “Failed to get label configuration” error message along with offering details on how to fix the underlying problem that caused it to appear in the first place.

The “Failed to get label configuration” error message appears when you attempt to add a label using the browser interface. While the cause is ultimately due to the fact that LABELNET is unable to pull the required data from the label design stored within LABEL ARCHIVE, there are six separate situations which can cause this failure:

  1. Label Checked Out – The Final Draft of the label has been checked out in CODESOFT, and not closed out.
  2. SENTINEL “TC Preview” Not Functioning – TC Preview is stuck in Parsing mode.
  3. SENTINEL “TC Preview” Responding Slowly – Similar to above, however SENTINEL clears itself from Parsing to Waiting in around 30 seconds.
  4. Label Design File Name Missing “.” – the file’s extension (.lab) is missing.
  5. “PrintUser” account in UMSS is locked – the user’s account is locked in the UMSS user table.
  6. “PrintUser” account in SENTINEL requires a password – someone set a password for the user account which must be entered in SENTINEL’s CODESOFT Printing Plug-In.

The solution to the “Failed to get label configuration” error message depends on which condition prompted it, and as a result, the method used to resolve the error will differ. You will need to check to see which, if any, of the conditions apply:

Open the Check Out window to see if the file is in use (checked out) by another program. Close the file in that program, or close the program itself to release the file.

Open the SENTINEL Manager window to see if TC Preview’s state is showing as “Waiting.” If it is, adjust the timeout values in the IIS Manager.

From within LABEL ARCHIVE, locate the file and look to see if the file’s name includes the “.lab” extension at the end. If it does not, then right-click on the file name to edit it. Add “.lab” to the end of the file name.

Check Out window with file extension called out.

Open the UMSS window to see if the PrintUser account is locked. If it is, unlock it by unchecking the box marked Locked.
