‘Cannot open configuration…’ – NiceLabel Error Message

Target Audience: IT Manager
Article #: 11799

When opening a NiceLabel Integration file, NiceLabel gave you an error message saying “Cannot open configuration. Configuration file was created with a different product level of NiceLabel”.

“Cannot open configuration” error message.

The most likely cause for this error message is that you created the Integration file using the “try” or “demo” version of NiceLabel. These versions give you full access to every feature, including Actions, in NiceLabel. Purchasing and activating the license will set NiceLabel to a specific edition. But, this may make some actions that were the demo unavailable. If you purchased an edition that doesn’t include a particular Action, you will get the error message if you try to use it.

Now, you’re probably wondering, “how do I know which features are supported in each edition?” The chart below offers a quick recap of supported Actions by edition.

There are two solutions. The first, and easiest is to upgrade to the edition that includes the Actions you need. However, if you don’t need that Action the other solution is to remove the unsupported feature(s) in your edition from the Integration file. This is straightforward but a bit cumbersome:

  1. Deactivate the NiceLabel license:

a. Open any NiceLabel Module
b. Select Help/About from the About Menu
c. Click on Deactivate your license and follow instructions on the screen

  1. Change the edition back to Enterprise (instructions)
  2. Open your Automation file and remove the unsupported actions (instructions)
  3. Re-activate the NiceLabel license (instructions)
