Activation Screen Keeps Reappearing – NiceLabel Problem

Summary

Even after NiceLabel has been successfully activated, the activation screen keeps reappearing. Fortunately, this problem can be resolved fairly easily.

Situation and Symptoms

  • NiceLabel client application (Designer Express, Designer Pro or PowerForms Designer) is being used.
  • A NiceLabel client application has already been activated on this computer.
  • The activation screen appears, despite the successful activation.

Explanation

The reappearance of the NiceLabel Activation screen following a prior successful activation happens when the local PC cannot properly run NiceLabel Proxy Service. This is caused by corrupt or missing information in the NiceLabel config settings. Specifically, the issue is with the product.config file. Removing the activation settings from this file will force NiceLabel to rewrite the settings during a reactivation.

Solution

  1. Stop NiceLabel Proxy Service on the PC.
  2. Delete the NiceLabel 10 license file by going to %PROGRAMDATA%\NiceLabel\NiceLabel 10 and deleting License.db.
  3. Modify the product configuration file by going to %PROGRAMDATA%\NiceLabel\NiceLabel 10 and opening product.config in any text editor.
  4. Within product.config, delete the following XML nodes along with their content:
    • <Activation>…</Activation>
    • <LmsCloud>…</LmsCloud>
    • <ControlCenter>…</ControlCenter>
  5. Restart the NiceLabel Proxy Service
  6. Go through the license activation process.
