CODESOFT Installer Fails Due to System Registry Errors from a Previous Version – CODESOFT Problem

Target Audience: Advanced User, IT Manager, IT Support
Article #: 11515

During an install process, the CODESOFT installer fails due to system registry errors. This is often due to the installer detecting a previous version of CODESOFT but not being able to successfully uninstall it. This problem may occur with LABELSOFT as well.

Situation and Symptoms

  • All installer features have defaulted to being unavailable, as symbolized with a red X.
Items shown with a red X are not available.
  • The installer warns about needing to uninstall a previous version of the software with a message reading, “To continue with this installation, the previous version will first of all be completely uninstalled and deactivated. Do you want to continue?
Question message confirming that you wish to uninstall the previous version of the software.
  • The installer also generates an error message reading, “The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.”

More information about this error message can be found in this article.

As part of the installation process, the installer will check the system registry. If it detects a previous version of the CODESOFT or LABELVIEW software, it will attempt to remove it before proceeding. However, if it is unable to successfully uninstall the old software, it will end the installation process. This problem can be due to a corrupted entry in the registry or by missing key files from the previous install.

Manually remove system registry references to other versions of CODESOFT or other TEKLYNX products in the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products folder. This especially applies to LABELVIEW.

The process for removing TEKLYNX system registry entries can be found here.
